Our Goals

In two weeks, due to the immense generosity of church members and faculty at BYUH, eight students and their advisors will be flying to Tuvalu for an incredible service project. As one of the smallest independent nations in the world, Tuvaluans face many challenges. Our goal is to address many of these challenges through a three fold mission.

1) Educate

We have been collecting books for several months now and will soon have a very large container full that will be shipped across the Pacific to benefit the schools there. We have also received donations of ten laptops, a printer, router, and cases and accessories that we will be donating to the schools in Funafuti. Students will be setting up this technology and teaching teachers the best ways to manage and coordinate their use within a classroom setting. We are also hoping to establish a scholarship fund to benefit a deserving hopeful student interested in attending BYUH.

2) Empower

While in Tuvalu, we will be holding a series of seminars designed to teach career preparation, personal motivation and goal setting, and the importance of education. Students and BYUH faculty will work together to create workshops that include CV writing, interview skills, etc. to help Tuvaluans gain confidence in their ability to succeed and achieve their goals.

3) Enterprise

Students will be working primarily with women who make crafts to help establish partnerships with a business in California willing to market and sell their work. This will create financial opportunities otherwise unavailable for these hardworking women.

We have been working hard on this project, and believe that the outcome will be substantial, long lasting, and will greatly impact many lives.
